Job Description

This is a professional, responsible position that assists in interpreting legal proceedings for non-English speaking or hearing-impaired persons to ensure due process. The position is responsible for interpreting the spoken or written word from Spanish to English language and vice versa. The Court Interpreter will assist with administrative duties for the department such as scheduling, statistics, research, and training materials. The Court Interpreter will be expected to be thoroughly familiar with and comply with the Code of Professional Conduct as outlined in Part III of the Florida Rules for Certification and Regulation of Spoken Language Court Interpreters. Education and Training Guidelines

Bachelor’s degree in English, the source language, or a closely related field; and

Two years of court or legal-related work experience.

Additional relevant experience may substitute for the recommended educational level on a year-for-year basis.

Requires valid certificate as a Certified Court Interpreter by the Florida Supreme Court, Office of the State Courts Administrator.

Applicants who are selected as court interpreters, but who are not certified at the time of court employment, must become certified within one year of being employed in a court interpreting position. The one-year requirement may be modified by the board on a case-by-case basis, if necessary; but, only in exceptional circumstances. See Fla. R. Court. Interp. 14.205(c).

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrates proficiency utilizing Microsoft Windows, specifically Outlook, Word, SharePoint, and Excel.

Direct working knowledge of the Florida State Courts System, court rules or procedures, and legal terminology.

*Salary will be 10% below minimum if not certified.

This is a full-time position.
